ABOUT WOLLUMBI ESTATE

Peter Weiss commenced his business in the fashion industry in the 1970s and became synonymous with Australian fashion and style. Some fifteen years ago Peter Weiss and his wife Doris retired to the country at his property in the Southern Highlands – about 2 hours south west of Sydney. Wollumbi means ‘place near the water’. It is a property of some 1,500 acres with undulating hills and good supplies of water from Uringalla creek, several dams and bores. It is situated close to Marulan, about 45km north of Goulburn and 90 minutes from Canberra on the M5. Peter has obsessively developed the land and pastures and the views are beautiful from every angle. Peter and Doris live here most of the year visiting Sydney on a regular basis. Together with their Farm Manager, David Croker, who has been at Wollumbi for 11 years, they have built up his stocks of cattle focusing on the Red Angus breed.

Wollumbi Estate Wines are proud supporters of various music and arts organisations and supply wine for functions held at venues such as the Art Gallery of NSW, the Australian Youth Orchestra in both Sydney and Melbourne and the Australian World Orchestra for its 2013 tour.

Wollumbi Estate is the product of Peter’s travels through Europe and Italy. Peter came back with a vision to start a Vineyard and Olive Grove with a focus on cool climate wines. Wollumbi Estate has 3 varieties of grapes – primarily Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris which have both been well-received throughout the Southern Highlands and surrounding areas.

Our olives are hand picked from Frantoioí, Pendolinoí and  Coratinaí trees. We produce cold pressed extra virgin olive oil. It takes over 700 olives to produce the oil in our 250ml bottles. Our oil is Tuscan in style, exhibiting complex flavors. It has a medium body and avoids being buttery. The finish has a mild pungency that one would expect from a fresh oil. The Olives are pressed within hours after being hand picked from the Wollumbi Estate Olive Trees.
